Bernhard was a veteran Porsche endurance racer and two-time Le Mans winner, Bamber had already won Le Mans in 2015, and Hartley secured his first overall victory at the legendary race. The 919 Hybrid was technologically extraordinary, combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged V4 gasoline engine with sophisticated hybrid systems, including an electric motor driving the front axle to create temporary four-wheel drive. Its greatest distinction came during the race: after losing front-axle drive, the #2 spent 1 hour and 5 minutes in the garage, rejoined in 54th place—19 laps behind—and remarkably fought all the way back to win.
