The Ferrari 250 LM Longnose, car #27, driven by David Piper and Richard Attwood, competed in the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, one of the most grueling endurance races in North America. Piper, a skilled privateer with extensive Ferrari experience, and Attwood, a future Le Mans winner, took on a fiercely competitive field dominated by the emerging Ford GT40s and Ferrari’s latest prototypes. The 1966 Daytona 24h was notable for being the first official 24-hour race at the circuit, marking the evolution of American endurance racing. While the aging 250 LM faced tough competition from newer mid-engined prototypes, it remained a symbol of Ferrari’s endurance racing legacy and proved its durability on the high-speed banking and infield road course of Daytona.
